TOPEKA (KSNT) – Defending TGA City Match Play champion, and former Washburn golfer, Brian Walker held off Chris McGown on the final hole and won 1UP to capture his second straight City Match Play championship.
The match was all-square heading into the 17th hole. McGown hit his tee shot on the par three into the green-side bunker. Before he could chip out, Walker made a roughly 45-foot putt for birdie to win the hole and take a one-shot lead heading into the 18th.
Once again, McGown’s tee shot ended up in a green-side bunker on the short par four. He chipped out, and was about 8-feet right of the hole. After Walker’s approach shot came up 10-feet shortof the pin, he had a birdie putt for the championship. He nailed the putt.
