SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – A fire heavily damaged a residence in the Montara neighborhood Friday morning.
Shawnee Heights Firefighters were called to this fire shortly after 7:30. When they arrived, one half of a duplex was engulfed in flames. The property was vacant and authorities say the fire began in an attached carport area and spread to the kitchen and living room area of the house.
The Kansas Fire Marshall and Arson dog were called to investigate and late Friday morning, a batallion chief labeled the fire as suspicious. It’s the second time firefighters were called to the address. A June 26th fire at the same location was also ruled as suspicious.
Shawnee Heights Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Price tells Kansas First News since spring, they have been called upon for “less than ten” fires in the Montara neighborhood. He’s asking those who live there to be vigilant and to be sure to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
