Shawnee County Police say 59-year-old Desiree Rias was the passenger that died as a result of her injuries in a two-car accident that occurred Saturday morning on U.S. 75.
Shawnee County Police confirm that on Saturday at approximately 1:23 a.m., the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a report of two-vehicle crash in the 2900 block of NW 75 Hwy. A 2014 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, were traveling southbound on NW 75 Hwy. For an unknown reason the vehicles collided causing the Impala to lose control and travel into the west ditch where it struck several trees.
The Chevrolet Impala had four occupants that were transported to a local hospital by AMR. Three suffered injuries that were believed to be non-life threatening. The fourth was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet Camaro was not injured.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The names of the victims are not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
Soldier Township Fire Department, AMR, Topeka Fire Department and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Deputies were all on scene.
