Kobach announces launch of new mobile voter App

VoteKansas App Instructions for iPhones

Secretary of State Kris Kobach announced Wednesday that a new mobile voter application is available for Kansans to get election information on the go. The VoteKansas app is designed to connect voters with the essential information needed to cast their ballots.  It is free and ready for downloading onto iPhones and other Apple portable devices. Go to the Apple App Store and search “VoteKansas.”

Kansas voters can use this app for upcoming elections. The registered voter types in his or her voter registration address and the app displays the offices and candidates on the voter’s ballot. Another feature finds the polling place address, shows it on a map, and gives directions from the user’s registered address. No personally identifying information is required in order to use the VoteKansas app.

“Creating this app has been a high priority for me. In Kansas, we make it easy to vote, but hard to cheat.  This app will make it easier for voters to get the information they need,” said Kobach.

The Kansas Secretary of State’s Office is the first in the nation to collaborate with the Pew Charitable Trusts in developing and launching a mobile voter app. These tools are made available to ensure that election information is accessible to voters where they look for it most – online.

The VoteKansas app supplements the information available online through the Voting Information Project and the Kansas Secretary of State’s VoterView website.  A Spanish translation will be available shortly, and the Android version should be available in September.

Kobach added, “I encourage every Kansas voter to vote in next week’s primary election.”

Election day for the state primary is Tuesday, August 5th. State law requires that polling places open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on election day, but the county may open the polls earlier and close them later. All voters who are in line when the polls close are allowed to vote.
