TOPEKA (KSNT) – The City of Topeka says a health advisory for Deer Creek where it runs through Dornwood Park is still in effect.

Crews worked until 1 a.m. Thursday cleaning and clearing bloackage on the sewer interceptor that overflowed Wednesday.

On Thursday crews continued pumping out the creek and the City says they may continue work there Friday.

The city says it is specifically worried about the stretch from SE 29th Street to SE 21st Street.

The action was taken after a sewer interceptor got blocked by debris and waste Wednesday afternoon, spilling an unknown quantity of sewage into the creek.

The City continues to urge people to stay out of the creek, especially children and pets.

The state Department of Health and Environment has been notified.

The advisory is in effect until further notice.
