TOPEKA (KSNT) – “This is a little bull ring 3/8-mile dirt track that sits right next to a nationally known drag strip,” said race car driver Heath Murry.
He’s talking about the dirt track at Heartland Park Topeka. And it has something the whole family can enjoy. Every Saturday night is the ‘Saturday Showdown Series’ which features five different car classes.
“It’s a family oriented thing,” said Murry. “You can bring the kids and have fun, or you can come and have an adult atmosphere with drinks. The drivers are very courteous, and if you just watch yourself, you know it’s a very family-oriented atmosphere. They usually keep the track what I like, which is slick. And that’s easy on cars, easy on drivers, and easy on equipment.”
Technicians are also on-hand to make sure the playing field is level for all the competitors.
“After a heat race, the top three cars go into the tech. You don’t know what they’re going to check, but it’s to keep it legal,” said Murry.
The ‘Saturday Showdown Series’ runs every Saturday night from 7:00pm-10:00pm through September. For more information on how you can obtain tickets, visit: http://hpt.com/
“Come out, the green flag drops at 7pm, at you see some great racing,” said Murry.
