TPD motorcycle officer released from hospital

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Topeka Police Department motorcycle officer was rushed to the hospital after an accident shortly before 9:30 Saturday night.

Deputies from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash in the 2300 block of SW Wanamaker Rd.  Deputies say the motorcycle was traveling North on SW Wanamaker Rd. and the Malibu was travelling south.  The driver of the Malibu was identified as 28-year-old Amanda Ramos of Topeka, who turned left in front of the motorcycle, attempting to go east on SW 23rd Terrace. The motorcycle hit the car head-on, ejecting the rider from the motorcycle.

The motorcycle officer, Kevin Shultz was taken to the hospital for his injuries. He was wearing a helmet when the collision occurred.

The intersection was closed for several hours while the scene was investigated.  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Topeka Fire Department and the Topeka Police Department. Officer Shultz was released from the hospital with minor injuries. Ramos refused medical treatment on the scene.
