Cleaver emerges from crowded Democratic field

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Five-term U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver has won the Democratic nomination in a crowded primary field as he seeks another two years in Washington.

The Kansas City congressman bested four other Democrats in Tuesday’s election. Two of Cleaver’s primary challengers previously sought elected office as Republicans. Mark Memoly ran for the U.S. Senate from Missouri in 2012, while Bob Gough unsuccessfully challenged incumbent Rep. Sam Graves two years ago in the 6th District.
