TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Republicans battling in the Kansas primaries have spent the last few months in a constant tussle to persuade voters that they’re more conservative than their opponents.

Voters will decide Tuesday who was right as they cast ballots to move candidates ahead to the November general election.

The top race is the GOP primary for U.S. Senate, where incumbent Pat Roberts faces a feisty tea party challenge from Milton Wolf.

In the state’s 4th Congressional District, Mike Pompeo is trying to turn back former U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt. In the rural 1st District, Tim Huelskamp is in a surprising battle against Alan LaPolice.

Statewide office primaries also include races for governor, insurance commissioner and secretary of state.
