Man, 20, pleads in 2013 Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A Wichita man has pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder in the shooting death of a 34-year-old man.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that 20-year-old Dennis Haynes pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the April 2013 death of Ronald Betts of Wichita. The office says Betts died during a drug transaction.

Haynes is one of six people charged in a shooting death.

The office says Haynes also pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder in the first degree, attempted aggravated robbery and attempted possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

The Wichita Eagle reports Haynes is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 18.
