LAWRENCE (KSNT) – A few thousand fans showed up at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence to watch the 2014 Kansas Jayhawks football team host an open practice. Most eyes were on sophomore quarterback Montell Cozart who will be the leader on offense this year.
The Jayhawks won just three games in 2013, and from that squad, Kansas returns speedster Tony Pierson as well an explosive backfield featuring Taylor Cox and Brandon Bourbon.
The fans on hand were drawn to transfer wide receiver Nick Harwell, who came over from Miami (OH). He’s been named to the preseason second-team All Big 12.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ben Heeney will be the guy to watch. He was an All-Big 12 first team player last year and averaged nearly nine tackles per game, which ranked 4th in the conference.
Kansas begins its season on September 6th against Southeast Missouri.
