Pedestrian killed in accident on I-70

Semi-pedestrian accident

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka police worked an accident near I-70 and Wanamaker Road Thursday morning. Initial reports indicated a pedestrian may have been hit by a vehicle. Eastbound traffic was backed up for some distance west of that area.

UPDATE: As of 9:30 a.m. eastbound traffic at I-70 and Wanamaker is now open to all traffic according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

UPDATE from TPD: Officers responded to a report of a semi-pedestrian accident on I-70 at Wanamaker in the eastbound lanes. Upon arrival they located a male victim with life threatening injuries. AMR and TFD responded to assist and the victim was pronounced deceased on scene. KHP and KDOT are responding to assist with traffic control and sign boards. I-70 has been reduced to one lane eastbound and may be closed completely during the investigation. Units are still on scene and no victim information is available or will be released pending proper notification. Please avoid this area if possible due the obvious traffic issues.

UPDATE: Kansas First News photographer on the scene says one lane of eastbound traffic is open, but the exit to Wanamaker road is closed.
