TOPEKA (KSNT) – Students with the Washburn University Black Student Union are showing their support for the slain teen in Ferguson, Mo.
About 20 students gathered on the lawn in front of the Student Union Wednesday.
Washburn student Terek Hawkins is from St. Louis.
He says the scene in Ferguson is a reminder of the Civil Right struggles of the 1960s.
Hawkins says he wants to see both sides come together to find a solution.
“Iit saddens me that we are going back in a time capsule, that we are going back to something that happened 40 or 50 years ago and hopefully we can come to an agreement, you know both sides are wrong so two wrongs don’t make a right.”
Hawkins says social media is the key to spreading awareness about the issue.
