SENECA (KSNT) – The Nemaha Central Thunder are the combination of the old Nemaha Valley, and Baileyville B&B high schools. Nemaha Valley was 9-2 last season, while B&B won the 8-man Division II state championship.
By combining the two powerhouses, Nemaha Central will look to turn some heads in the Big Seven league and make a push toward a post-season appearance.
Head coach Warren Seitz is pleased with the way the new team is meshing in the early going.
“The expectations really stay the same, said Seitz. “Baileyville really had high expectations, we’ve always had high expectations. So one of them is to make the playoffs. We want to win the league, you know we want to do things like that.”
“Big Seven has a lot of big teams,” said senior tackle Ethan Schmitz. “It will be nice to see some of these big teams in action. I’ve never experienced them before.”
“We just need to make sure the whole line understands the new blocking schemes for some of the guys coming up from 8-man to 11-man because it’s a little different,” said senior running back and linebacker Devin Henry.
Nemaha Central begins its 2014 season at Sabetha on September 5.
