JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – A new fire truck is being used to help protect the Junction City area.
The last time the Junction City Fire Department was able to purchase a new vehicle for the fleet was nearly two decades ago.
The new truck is just 1 of 3 getting replaced between now and 2015.
The fire department is expecting the arrival of a new ladder truck, that was all made possible with the help of a federal grant from FEMA.
“We were very fortunate in receiving the grant from the federal government,” says Junction City Fire Chief Kevin Royse. We were the only department with in the state of Kansas that got one that was as large as it was for the apparatus. With out that grant we would not have been able to afford replacing that truck.”
Despite the hefty price tag, the fire department will be saving money on the maintenance and fuel cost with this new rig.
