TOPEKA (KSNT) – She’s a classically trained pianist who once played at the Jayhawk Hotel on the radio.
Virginia Specht sang opera and was even offered a position with the Chicago Lyric Opera.
The centenarian was also an accomplished swimmer who shared the pool with the likes of Johnny Weismuller back in the day. He was a swimmer-turned actor who played Tarzan on the silver screen.
On Sunday, Mrs. Specht celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.
“Well, I feel like a million dollars, mainly because the people I admire and enjoy being with and then of course, they’ve planned some pretty nice things, so why shouldn’t you feel good.”
Mrs. Specht is also known for her work with the Shawnee County Red Cross where she began a program for children.
She is a proud native Topekan who says the capital city has helped make her who she is at the wise age of 100.
