Man seen with UVA student faces driving charge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Police say a man seen with a University of Virginia student before she disappeared is being sought on an arrest warrant charging him with reckless driving.

Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said Sunday at a news conference that Jesse Matthew came to the police station on Saturday, asked for and was provided a lawyer’s name and then left. Longo says Matthew got into a vehicle and left the police station at a high rate of speed, endangering other drivers.

Longo says Virginia State Police issued an arrest warrant charging Matthew with reckless driving, a misdemeanor.

Longo says he believes Matthew is the last person whom 18-year-old Hannah Graham was seen with before she vanished early on Sept. 13.

On Saturday, more than 1,000 volunteers participated in a search for Graham.
