TOPEKA (KSNT) -At 9:50 Tuesday morning, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center (SCECC) received a phone call reporting a shooting.
The call reported the shooting occurred at a residence at 4445 NE Indian Creek Rd. in northeast Shawnee County. The caller reported a gunshot victim and the possibility of a barricaded suspect.
Deputies were dispatched to the area and the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was notified and readied for deployment. Based on information from the scene, responding deputies were able to evaluate the situation and quickly determined the initial report received was not accurate.
Additionally, Deputies made contact with the residents of the home who were all cooperative and confirmed their well being. It was determined that the report called into the SCECC was false.
Sheriff Herman Jones said we take making false reports of this nature very seriously. “We are actively investigating the origin of the call made to the SCECC. We will do our best to identify the caller and take appropriate action.”
Investigation into the matter is continuing.
