TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka Police late Wednesday identified the woman who’s body was found earlier in the morning as that of 22 year old Lacie Atchison of Topeka.
“I’ve never seen anybody killed in my life, and now it’s next door to me” says neighbor Shannon Shively.
Police initially received a disturbance call around 8:00 Wednesday morning of a man in the area of 912 SE 34th who was naked, acting out of his mind, with blood on him.
“I looked outside,” Shively told Kansas First News “and I see this naked man walking across the street and harassing the old man.”
Police Lt. Chuck Haggard says it took several police officers to subdue the man and authorities eventually had to use a stun gun. The man was taken in an ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment.
“He was unresponsive to verbal commands so they tasered quickly to get him into custody.” says Topeka Police Lt. Chuck Haggard.
Upon further investigation officers found Atchison’s body, which is now being investigated as a homicide. Topeka Police Captain Scott Conklin tells Kansas First News the man, while in custody is not being named as a suspect in the death at this time.
A toddler was also found at the residence unharmed and was taken into protective custody.
Police have yet to name the man now in custody.
