Topeka man charged with homicide

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka Police late Wednesday night announced the arrest of 23-year old Trevor William Adkins (pictured) of Topeka for the murder of a young woman who’s body was found earlier in the day.

At mid-afternoon, police identified the woman who’s body was found earlier in the morning as that of 22 year old Lacie Atchison of Topeka.

A toddler was also found at the residence unharmed and was taken into protective custody.

Just before 10:00 p.m. Wednesday police said after spending most of the day being interviewed by detectives Adkins had been charged with First Degree Murder, Child Endangerment, Battery and Criminal Restraint.

“I’ve never seen anybody killed in my life, and now it’s next door to me” says neighbor Shannon Shively.

Police initially received a disturbance call around 8:00 Wednesday morning of a man in the area of 912 SE 34th who was naked, acting out of his mind, with blood on him.

“I looked outside,” Shively told Kansas First News “and I see this naked man walking across the street and harassing the old man.”

Police Lt. Chuck Haggard says it took several police officers to subdue the man and authorities eventually had to use a stun gun. The man was taken in an ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment. He was later released and taken to the Topeka Law Enforcement Center for questioning.

A toddler was also found at the residence unharmed and was taken into protective custody.

Police have yet to name the man now in custody.
