KSU Police warn Manhattan residents of phone scam

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Kansas State University police have become the latest law enforcement agency to become victims of phone scammers trying to get your money.

Thursday night the department issued a public warning of a phone scam in the area where callers claim to be K-State police officers collecting unpaid fines or money.

The department says it never calls to collect money owed it, or to solicit money for past debts.

Officials say anyone who receives one of the calls should not provide any personal or financial information, should hang up immediately and call K-State police at (785) 532-6412.

Similar scams have involved other local police departments, utilities and financial institutions.
