MANHATTAN (KSNT) – The Fort Riley soldier who is charged with murder had his first court appearance Wednesday.
Twenty-two year old Alexander McConnell has been charged in a criminal complaint with First Degree Murder and abuse of a child.
In the complaint it alleges that on February 8th of this year McConnell killed a child identified only by the initials AKM, who was born in 2013.
The second count elaborates slightly, saying that McConnell shook the child, resulting in great bodily harm.
McConnell, who says he has his own attorney, was ordered back in court on October 14th and is currently being held on $200,000 bond.
A judge denied McConnell’s request for a public defender.
