LAWRENCE (KSNT) – A University of Kansas fraternity has been placed on interim suspension due to events that took place at a party this past weekend.
According to a statement from KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, the Kappa Sigma fraternity has been placed on interim suspension due to disturbing and serious allegations of sexual assault that occurred during a party this past weekend.
These allegations were reported to local law enforcement and to Institutional Opportunity and Access.
“As a community we will not tolerate the type of egregious behavior that has been reported, and we are cooperating with the Lawrence Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation. KU’s Office of Institutional Opportunity and Access also will conduct a thorough investigation.”
Gray-Little says part of KU’s commitment to a safe campus is that we all share responsibility. This includes intervening as bystanders. Anyone with information about this, or any other case, needs to contact the Lawrence Police Department and the Office of Institutional Opportunity and Access.
“The IOA office will take steps to ensure the security and safety of individuals who reported these incidents. Again, I ask for everyone’s cooperation in creating an environment that is safe for and respectful of all members of our community.”
