TOPEKA (KSNT) – The city of Topeka welcomed a new store to the capital city Wednesday morning.
A large crowd was on hand for the ribbon cutting of the new Walmart store in Topeka’s Highland Park area. The store opened at 6 a.m.
The opening of the new store created nearly 300 full and part-time jobs. It will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
A member of a neighborhood improvement association in the area is excited about a major retailer coming to southeast Topeka and believes it could bring in other businesses.
On Saturday, the store will have activities for the public and free food samples to enjoy from noon to 3 p.m.
The grand opening celebration included presentations of $7,000 in grants from Walmart to community groups including the Helping Hands Humane Society.
