EMPORIA (KSNT) – Kansas Public Safety officials made a pitch for railroad crossing safety Wednesday but they took an unusual approach to do so.
Police officers got to see what those crossing look like from a train crews perspective in Emporia. The idea is to get officers to understand why it’s important to make sure motorists observe crossing rules. In the past two years, two people were killed and there were several other non-fatal accident.
“We have a lot of crossings in this town and it’s very important that we make sure that people are aware when they cross the railroad tracks to be always looking and thinking that there’s a train coming.” said Sgt. Lisa Sagle from the Emporia Police Department.
