Washburn’s Marissa Cox named MIAA Hitter of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Senior rightside hitter Marissa Cox gave the Ichabods their fourth MIAA volleyball athlete of the week award as she was named the hitter of the week after her efforts last week.

Cox hit .364 and averaged 4.29 kills a set in two MIAA wins last week for Washburn. She had 17 kills and hit .406 in a sweep Friday at Pittsburg State and then she had 13 kills and hit .324 Saturday at Southwest Baptist. She added seven digs and two aces during the week.

Cox was also named hitter of the week early in the season and then two weeks ago Leanna Willer was named hitter of the week and Natalie Bates was named specialist of the week.

No. 6 Washburn is 17-1 overall and all alone in first in the league at 9-1. The Bods will play at eighth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday at 7 p.m. as the first half of the conference season will come to a close.
