TOPEKA (KSNT) – An eye-sore that is no more – what was once a big white wall is now a mural filled with colorful images.
“It’s about imagination and education,” said Justin Marbable, artist. “With this tree here there is a root system. There is a seed of thought that is being planted, it’s a tree of knowledge idea.”
The Meadows Elementary School wall is the third and latest in the Topeka Wall Project sponsored by ARTSConnect. The Project is seen as way a way to curb crime in the capital.
Filled with dinosaurs, elephants, eagles and butterflies – the mural represents all things that bring out the creative and imaginative side of children.
Not only is this mural a show-stopper for children, but also for the neighbors that now say this painting brings a positive side to the Kenwood Neighborhood.
“Its child friendly looking, very appealing to little kids. It kind of puts that atmosphere around the area friendly. It’s definitely a positive thing,” said Forest Wright, neighbor.
The mural is expected to be completed by next summer.
