EMPORIA (KSNT) – The faces of our nation’s heroes now line the streets of downtown Emporia.
Emporia Main Street and The Freedom Fest Committee kicked off the banner project. It’s a way to honor veterans and active duty servicemembers.
Community members had the chance to submit pictures of their loved ones they wished to see on the banners. Organizers said they expected to only get 40 submissions but they ended up with 104.
“Downtowns are full of stories, so when people can go out with their grandchildren, or a daughter can look up at her dad and they can see him on a banner and then they can share their story and the sacrifices we made so that we can enjoy the lifestyle that we have today, its extremely gratifying.” said Executive Director of Emporia Main Street Casey Woods.
The banners will stay up for the next week and organizers say they already have a waiting list of submissions for next year.
