Sheriff’s office investigates early morning accident

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Early Thursday morning just after 12:30, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to an injury automobile accident at the intersection of SE 6th & Croco Road.

The wreck involved a car and SUV that was towing a trailer. It was reported by the driver of the SUV that the car was headed south on Croco and that the SUV was traveling west  on 6th Street. The driver of the SUV advised that the car appeared to be traveling at a very high rate of speed and ran the red light at the intersection. The car hit the trailer that the SUV was pulling causing the trailer to disconnect and sent the SUV into a parking lot near the intersection. The car spun out nearby and it came to a stop after being lodged between two poles.

The driver of the SUV told deputies that the driver of the car, whom was described as a Hispanic male, got out of the car and got into a silver vehicle that left westbound on 6th Street. At the time of this release the driver of the Charger has not been identified. No one at the scene advised of any injuries.

The Accident is still under investigation. Anyone with information in reference to this accident is requested to contact the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.
