TOPEKA (KSNT) – In an attempt to make Topeka safer the American Red Cross is joining forces with the city’s fire department to install fire alarms in homes to kick off their new Safe Program.
The Red Cross and Topeka Fire Department will install those alarms in the Hi-Crest west community this Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
They will also teach residents how to prepare, should a fire break out in their home.
“We are going to talk to people about the new fire department Safe Program which is special assistance in fire emergencies and installing smoke alarms and giving out general safety information.” said Topeka Fire Marshall Michael Martin.
If you live in the Hi-Crest west area and would like a free smoke detector installed in your home, contact the Avondale East Net Reach Center.
