Dogs compete in ‘dock jumping’

(WLUC) A 9-year-old Michigan girl and her dog are making a big splash as they head to the world championships of Dock Dogs.

Jake loves jumping into cold Lake Superior.

“He actually likes it. He likes jumping in the water I don’t know how, but when it’s cold he likes it,” says his owner and handler, Mackenzie Deprey.

Dock Dogs are dogs that compete in dock jumping, asport that’s becoming popular across the United States.

The handler throws a toy in the water and the dog jumps in after it.

Dogs are judged on how far they jump before hitting the water. So, the base of their tail is used to measure the distance.
