TOPEKA, Ks. (KSNT)- Lake Shawnee will be stocked with 7,000 pounds of Rainbow Trout on Saturday, Oct. 25. The trout are scheduled to arrive at noon pending good weather conditions. The lake will be closed to fishing from Saturday, Oct 25 until 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 to give the trout time to disperse and acclimate to their new surroundings.
The rout will be released at the main boat ramp. The trout must be a minimum of 11 inches in length and at least 600 will be in excess of four pounds each.
Shawnee County Parks and Recreation participates in the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Community Fisheries Assistance Program. CFAP funds offset the cost of fishing programs at Lake Shawnee including the stocking of the lake with trout in the spring and fall of each year. All KDWPT licensing and permit requirements apply for fishing at Lake Shawnee.
