Orlando ‘plane pull’ raises big money for Special Olympics

ORLANDO Fla. (NBC) – Several Special Olympics athletes in Orlando participated in the area’s first Plane Pull.

The event featured teams who competed to see who could pull a 50-ton plane, 12 feet in the fastest time.

Special Olympics athletes teamed up with superstars from WWE’s NXT to form a team at the event.

In the end, the ‘RMC Top Guns,’ a team from Lake Butler, Florida representing the Department of Corrections, pulled the 100,000 pound plane 12 feet in 5.1 seconds.

In all, more than 20 teams participated in front of hundreds of spectators. The event raised more than $30,000 for Special Olympics Florida.

The event was held Saturday at the Jetblue hangar at Orlando International Airport.
