Topeka suspicious death ruled as homicide

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The shooting death of Dustin C. McKinney has been ruled a homicide by Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Investigators. Investigators do not believe the incident was a random act of violence. The Sheriff’s Office is looking for at least two individuals possibly involved in the shooting.

Just before 8:30 Sunday evening, Shawnee County Emergency Communications received a call of a person needing medical attention at 734 NW 62nd Street. Shortly thereafter AMR, Soldier Township Fire Department and Shawnee County Sheriff Deputies responded to the address. Upon arrival responding personnel located McKinney, injured from apparent gunshot wounds inside the residence. AMR personnel pronounced McKinney dead at the scene. Deputies immediately initiated an investigation by securing the area and canvassing the neighborhood for information.
