FORT RILEY (KSNT) – The 1st Infantry Division and Ft. Riley kicked off their 30th year of Operation Santa Claus.
It’s an annual project that assists military families with financial difficulties during the holidays. The project was set in motion after a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday and guess who was there…Santa Claus, himself!
Operation Santa Claus provides children and families with gifts during the holidays. Last year’s donations helped more than a thousand children from 400 families.
“When someone comes into your office, even sometimes, and says ‘hey I just want to take 30 seconds to say I was really able to provide a fantastic holiday season based on what the Operation Santa Claus donation process was able to provide of our kids.” said Ft. Riley Garrison Commander Andrew Cole.
This year the goal is to raise $120,000 and acquire more than 15,000 toys.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys for children ages birth to 18 can be sent to Ft. Riley or by calling 785 239 6944 .
