TOPEKA, Kan.(KSNT)- Volunteers from the Topeka Active 20-30 Club- which is made up of business owners and employees- took a huge step to making sure area children stay warm this winter. They took 250 children in need from The Boys and Girls Club, TFI, Family Services and Guidance Center, The Villages, and YMCA shopping for winter coats on Sunday.
Children were selected based on need and met at Walmart at 9 a.m. on 2600 NW Rochester Rd. Children from area Elementary schools will also be selected by school staff to recieve hand delivered coats.
The money for the event was raised at a 20-30 gala in August. Enough money was raised to buy $50- $60 worth of winter gear for each child, totaling about $13,000 spent.
