TOPEKA (KSNT) – A race too close to call from last Tuesday’s election now has an official winner.
The Shawnee County Board of Canvassers approved more than 1,200 provisional ballots at their meeting Monday.
Republican Lane Hemsley won the election for the 56th District seat in the Kansas House.
Hemsley picked up 66 votes, resulting in a 40 vote victory over Democrat Virgil Weigel.
Hemsely was already ahead by 63 votes before the canvass.
The additional ballots also brought Shawnee County’s voter turnout to 60.4 percent.
