The City of Junction City announced Wednesday that Joe D. Markley has agreed to be the Interim Director for the C.L. Hoover Opera House.
Markley is currently a resident of Chapman and has lived in the Junction City area since 1980. He was the Chapman High School music teacher for 30 plus years, has been a music director for many productions at the Abilene Great Plains Theater and has been the director for the Junction City Little Theaters’ summer youth program for the last five years. He has a BME degree in Music Education from Emporia State University and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Emporia State University.
Markley stated, “I look forward to being the Interim Director to keep the C. L. Hoover Opera House a vital part of our cultural community.”
The city looked at options working with the C. L. Hoover Opera House Foundation President. Interim City Manager Cheryl Beatty stated that the City has hired Markley as interim director on a part-time basis while a search is conducted for Mr. West’s replacement. Beatty stated, “We look forward to working with Markley.”
