Kansas Supreme Court disbars lawyer for incompetence

The Kansas Supreme Court disbarred a lawyer who defended a man whose conviction was overturned.

The state’s highest court ordered the disbarment of Ira Dennis Hawver for violations of the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct while representing a client in a death penalty case.

The court determined Hawver should be disbarred for his inexplicable incompetence in defending Phillip Cheatham in 2005.
