MANHATTAN (KSNT) – The Flint Hills Bread Basket has been a part of the Manhattan community since 1982.
Their main focus is working with the community and local businesses to provide food and support for those in need.
The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for them.
“Around the holidays there’s other added stresses with the holidays as far as being able to do things for their family. They want to be able to prepare a meal so we’re here to help them with that,” Says Maribeth Kieffer Flint Hills Bread Basket Executive Director.
They work with donations from the community in order to provide full holiday meal baskets.
Valon Jones the client service coordinator says “We’re able to give qualifying families a Thanksgiving basket which is all the traditional fixings for a thanksgiving meal.”
These baskets include items like a turkey – bread and biscuits and pumpkin pie mix.
The flint hills bread basket is not only able to help families during the holidays but they have a ware house full of food so they can help families year round.
Maribeth says they are able to provide for those in need within the community because of the community. “We do not receive any federal, state, county or city funding. It’s all funded through the generous donations of people that live here and around Manhattan”
The last day to sign up for a Thanksgiving Basket is November 19th at the Douglas Center from 9 a.m. to 11a.m.
