TOPEKA (KSNT) – Children in more than 100 countries will receive gifts thanks in part to people northeast Kansas.
Operation Christmas Child collects shoe boxes filled with items for children around the world. The Topeka Collection Center has set a goal of more than 5,800 boxes.
Collection Center Coordinator Martha Springer tells Kansas First News what you can donate:
“You can put hygiene items like a washcloth, a bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste. School supplies, there is a story about a young lady that got a spiral notebook one year in her shoebox and she used it for several years erasing it and using it over and over again for school because that was the only paper that she had.”
If you’d like to help out you can bring donated items to First Southern Baptist Church and Southwest Topeka Bible Church in Topeka.
Other locations include Rolling Hills Christian Church in North Topeka and Grace Chapel in Carbondale.
