TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka crews continue to investigate a fatal fire Thursday.
Report of a house fire at 8th and SW Buchanan was reported after 8 a.m. fully engulfed in flames. A Kansas First News videographer on the scene has confirmed that at least one person was killed in the fire. Friends and family say Morgan was very ambitious and kind to everyone around her.
“On our arrival the condition, the fire conditions were extremely heavy the crews made several attempts to actually enter the structure and there was just no way they could get inside.” said Topeka Fire Marshal Michael Martin.
Morgan’s mother was able to get out in time.
“She had plans to move on and get out, become a force in life.” said Jennifer Taylor, a family friend.
Duncan was taking online classes to get her G.E.D and had dreams of becoming a musician. Friends and family of Duncan say they will miss her smile.
Family members confirmed with Kansas First News the victim was 18-year old Morgan Duncan of Topeka. A donation fund has been set up to help Morgan’s family. CLICK HERE
Duncan is the second fire related death in Topeka this year. The last one was a 72-year old woman inside a mobile home in July.
Another fire was reported earlier in the 1400 block of southeast 10th. Heavy smoke could be seen coming from that house when crews arrived.
All occupants were able to get out safely and there were no injuries.
