Kansas University hosts Mental Health First Aid training for veterans

LAWRENCE, Kan.(KSNT)- On Saturday , Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins will host a mental Health First Aid training session at KU from 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m. The event is designed specifically to fit the needs of veterans, their family members and those who work closely with veterans and their family members.

Mental First Aid is a live training program-like regular First Aid or CPR- designed to give people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to recognize and respond to the warning signs of specific illnesses.

This training is the first of its kind to be hosted in Kansas, and will be presented in partnership with the National Council, the KU Collegiate Veterans Association, KU Counseling and Psychological Services, and the KU Graduate Military Programs.
