TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Helping Hands Humane Society is offering a Black Friday deal like no other. They’re calling it “Black Furday.”
According to Director of Adoption Services Kathy Maxwell, any animal that has black or mostly black fur will receive a discount.
Maxwell says adoption fees for black or mostly black cats will be waived. Dogs are typically adopted for a fee of $150, but they’ll discount the fee to just $100.
So aside from the cute play on the words, “Black Friday”, why black pets?
“For some reason it’s called black dog syndrome,” said Director of Development Justin Brokar as he pet his own dog. “Black dogs and black cats just don’t get adopted as much as other animals in the shelter.”
But Brokar said, despite the stigma, black pets are no different than any other pets.
The Helping Hands Humane Society is open on Black Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. All pets that are black or mostly black (including bunnies!) are eligible for the deal.
