TOPEKA (KSNT) – A call for charity this Thanksgiving holiday didn’t go unnoticed on Black Friday.
The Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka had put out word Thanksgiving they would be turning Black Friday into “Black Fur-day” a little play on words to help get frequently unwanted black cats and dogs aqdopted.
Animal experts say that for a variety of reason, people seem more reluctant to adopt black-haired animals than any other color.
So on this “Black Fur-day” the shelter was offering reduced prices for black-haired kittens and cats, puppies and dogs – and it worked.
Just before the shelter closed on Friday nearly 40 animals had been adopted, and at times there was a waiting line for potential owners to speak with adoption counselors.
