Expocentre welcomes NCAA, KU for first-ever Division I Volleyball Tournament

The Kansas volleyball team begins the NCAA Tournament on Friday night at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – After nearly 28 years, the Kansas Expocentre will host its first Division I Tournament this weekend with the opening rounds of NCAA Volleyball Championship. The Kansas Jayhawks were awarded the hosting rights, but the tournament conflicted with a men’s basketball game Friday night between Kansas and Florida in Allen Fieldhouse, so the first & second rounds of the volleyball tournament were moved to Topeka.

“We’re thrilled to provide our facility to KU so they can maintain their home-court advantage,” said H.R. Cook, Expocentre general manager. “We’re only 27 miles down the road, so we expect to see a lot of Jayhawk volleyball fans this weekend.”

The action begins Friday at 4 p.m. with Creighton meeting Oregon State. At 6:30 p.m., Arkansas-Little Rock will meet Kansas. Then on Saturday, the winner of both matches will meet at 6:30, with the champion moving on to the Ames, Iowa regional December 12-13.

Advance tickets are available online HERE. After 5 Friday evening, tickets will be on sale at the Kansas Expocentre box office. All-session tickets are $12 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission and $5 with a student ID. Single-session tickets are $7 reserved, $6 GA and $5 for students.

To make this first-ever event possible, the Topeka RoadRunners hockey team shifted their previously scheduled weekend games to Sunday and Monday. For the 5pm Sunday game, fans can purchase 25 or more tickets for only $4 per seat, 50 tickets or more for only $3 per seat, or 100 tickets or more for just $2 each. Monday’s game will be at 1pm and tickets will be only $1. All specially priced tickets must be purchased through the RoadRunners office, or by calling 785-286-7825. Season ticket holders who are unable to attend these games can exchange their tickets for any other regular season game.
