TOPEKA (KSNT) – Washburn men’s and women’s basketball took care of Southwest Baptist on Thursday night at Lee Arena to open MIAA competition.
The 7th-ranked Ichabod women started the night with a 16-point victory over the Lady Bearcats, 80-64. Washburn (7-0) led by as many as 30 points in the contest.
“Good players, good teams know how to just run that 30-point game but we’re trying to figure this out,” Washburn women’s basketball coach Ron McHenry said. “We didn’t handle it very good but I thought we played good in stretches. We did a nice job of feeding the post and playing off the post so first conference game I thought we played well at times.”
Honor Duvall led the way with 22 points and 9 rebounds for the undefeated Ichabods.
Kyle Wiggins scored 24 points to pace the men against Southwest Baptist. The Ichabods won 68-56. Washburn is home again on Saturday night for an MIAA doubleheader against Missouri Southern.
