TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas Highway Patrol Col. Ernest Garcia announced Monday his plans to leave his position as superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol effective January 5, 2015.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Kansas and for the honor of leading the brave men and women of the Highway Patrol,” Garcia said.
Garcia was appointed superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol in January 2011. He is a 40 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in several active duty and reserve roles. He also served as the Sergeant at Arms for the U.S. Senate, responsible for managing overall security for Senate offices and providing training to U.S. Capitol police officers.
“Ernie Garcia dedicated his career to service, first as a Marine and most recently leading the Kansas Highway Patrol,” said Governor Sam Brownback. “I appreciate his commitment and wish him well in his retirement.”
