MANHATTAN (KSNT) -For those of you who are fans of the syndicated morning show “Live with Kelly and Michael” you might have seen this noticed Thursday morning a Manhattan woman receiving recognition as a weekly winner of a “Random Acts of Kindness” competition.
She won 500-dollars and a chance at an even bigger grand prize.
Aurelia Pacey is a kind, quite and giving woman.
At 86-years-old she makes five dresses a week on her 65-year old sewing machine – and in the process has touched the lives of thousands of young girls.
“I’m just having fun, I’ve always liked to sew,” says Aurelia Pacey.
It all started three years ago when a neighbor told her about a program called “Dress a Girl Around the World”. “It was kind of cute and I thought well “I could do that’,” says Pacey.
The dresses are delivered to the children by mission volunteers.
Aurelia keeps track of all of her dresses in a book, she takes pictures of all the dresses when she’s done and she makes sure to keep track of where they go and what kids there able to help.
This week she was rewarded with a prize of $500 and a year’s worth of Wrigley’s.
“Haha I don’t know?! haha I don’t chew gum but I got grandchildren,” says Pacey.
Aurelias’ daughter Sue Chavey nominated her, “I thought she’s very worthy of winning this so, I’m very proud.”
Aurelia plans on sewing dresses as long and she can and as for her’ 66 year old sewing machine… “My husband wanted to get me a new zig-zag, all that, and I said ‘I like this one’ haha I don’t want a new one.”
Aurelia is one of five weekly winners and a grand prize winner will be chosen December 12th.
That winner will receive $10,000 and another year’s supply of extra gum, plus an addition $10,000 will be donated to their favorite charity.
