TOPEKA (KSNT) – A new city bus on the streets is sporting a Washburn University theme.
The Topeka Metro Transit and Washburn unveiled the bus Thursday morning on campus. The bus is a collaboration between the city bus service and Washburn which allows students, faculty and employees to ride free.
“College students are the fastest growing user population for public transit,” said Susan Duffy, general manager for Topeka Metro. “Washburn’s decision to cover the cost of its student’s transit really demonstrates how forward-thinking and student-focused the university is.”
Each month, Topeka metro provides more than 5,500 rides to students and staff. The wrapped bus will be used on all of Topeka’s fixed routes, the design will remain on the bus for two years.
